Messiah was to enter Jerusalem in triumph

Messiah was to enter Jerusalem in triumph

Zechariah 9:9
New American Standard Bible (NASB)

(A)Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!
Shout in triumph, O daughter of Jerusalem!
Behold, your (B)king is coming to you;
He is [a](C)just and (D)endowed with salvation,
(E)Humble, and mounted on a donkey,
Even on a (F)colt, the [b]foal of a donkey.

New Testament Fulfilment

Matthew 21:1-9
New American Standard Bible (NASB)

The Triumphal Entry
21 (A)When they had approached Jerusalem and had come to Bethphage, at (B)the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples, saying to them, “Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied there and a colt with her; untie them and bring them to Me. If anyone says anything to you, you shall say, ‘The Lord has need of them,’ and immediately he will send them.” (C)This [a]took place to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet:
(D)Say to the daughter of Zion,
Behold your King is coming to you,
Gentle, and mounted on a donkey,
Even on a colt, the foal of a beast of burden.’”
The disciples went and did just as Jesus had instructed them, and brought the donkey and the colt, and laid their coats on them; and He sat on [b]the coats. Most of the crowd (E)spread their coats in the road, and others were cutting branches from the trees and spreading them in the road. The crowds going ahead of Him, and those who followed, were shouting,
“Hosanna to the (F)Son of David;
(G)Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord;
Hosanna (H)in the highest!”

John 12:12-16
New American Standard Bible (NASB)

Jesus Enters Jerusalem
12 On the next day (A)the large crowd who had come to (B)the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, 13 took the branches of the palm trees and went out to meet Him, and began to shout, “(C)Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord, even the (D)King of Israel.” 14 Jesus, finding a young donkey, sat on it; as it is written, 15 (E)Fear not, daughter of Zion; behold, your King is coming, seated on a donkey’s colt.” 16 (F)These things His disciples did not understand at the first; but when Jesus (G)was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written of Him, and that they had done these things to Him.
